At a hospital in Greece, Michael Morbius, 10, meets his loan brother Lucien, renamed after Milo; they are associated with their general blood disease and a desire to be “normal”. Their adoptive father and hospital director, Nicholas, arranged for Michael to attend medical school in New York while concentrating on Milo’s care.

Twenty -five years later, Michael openly refused the Nobel Prize for his work with synthetic blood. Michael’s colleague Martin Bancroft discovered that he had secretly caught dozens of Costa Rican vampire bats in hopes of connecting their genes with their own to improve his condition. After informing Nicholas and Milo of his proposed illegal experiment, Michael received funding to equip private mercenaries in international waters with his own equipment. While the drug was working, she turned Michael into a vampire. Michael kills and bleeds the crew after they attack him out of fear.
